NTSB TO MEET ON MEXICAN HAT, UTAH, MOTORCOACH ACCIDENT
The National Transportation Safety Board will hold a public Board meeting Tuesday, April 21, at 9:30 a.m., in its Board Room and Conference Center, 429 L'Enfant Plaza, S.W., Washington, D.C.
There is one item on the agenda. The Board will consider a final report on the following accident:
* On January 6, 2008, a 2007 Motor Coach Industries 56-passenger motorcoach with a driver and 52 passengers on board departed Telluride, Colorado, en route to Phoenix, Arizona, as part of a 17-motorcoach charter. The normal route from Telluride to Phoenix along Colorado State Route 145 was closed due to snow, and an alternate route that included U.S. Route 191/163 through Utah was planned. About four and a half hours into the trip, the motorcoach descended a 5.6-percent grade leading to a curve to the left and, after entering the curve, departed the right side of the roadway and overturned in a 360-degree rollover sequence. The entire roof of the motorcoach separated from the body, and 51 of the 53 occupants were ejected. As a result of this accident, 9 passengers were fatally injured, and 43 passengers and the driver received injuries ranging from minor to serious.
A live and archived webcast of the proceedings will be available on the Board's website at www.ntsb.gov. Technical support details are available under "Board Meetings." To report any problems, please call 703-993-3100 and ask for Webcast Technical Support.
