NTSB SENDING TEAM TO INVESTIGATE TANKER TRUCK FIRE THAT LED TO BRIDGE COLLAPSE NEAR DETROIT

The National Transportation Safety Board has launched a three-member team to investigate yesterday's multiple- vehicle accident that resulted in a fire and bridge collapse.

At about 8:10 p.m. EDT, Wednesday, July 15, 2009, a tanker truck carrying approximately 9,000 gallons of gasoline rolled over on the northbound lanes of I-75 in Hazel Park, Michigan. Following the rollover, the tanker-truck was struck by a tractor-trailer, which was followed by a large fire under a bridge, ultimately leading to its collapse. Three injuries have been reported.

Senior Highway Safety Investigator Pete Kotowski is the Investigator-in-Charge and will lead the NTSB team.
