Response: WITH THE CONTINUED INCREASE IN SALES OF LIGHT TRUCKS, VANS, AND MULTIPURPOSE VEHICLES, THE AGENCY ISSUED A NPRM ON 11/2/89, TO EXTEND THE FMVSS NO. 216, "ROOF CRUSH PROTECTION," TO THESE VEHICLES. A COPY OF THAT NOTICE IS ENCLOSED. IT WAS NOTED IN THE NPRM THAT THIS "PROPOSAL IS PART OF THE AGENCY'S EFFORT TO ENSURE THAT OCCUPANTS OF LIGHT TRUCKS ARE ADEQUATELY PROTECTED, PARTICULARLY IN ROLLOVER EVENTS." A FINAL RULE ON THIS SUBJECT IS SCHEDULED FOR THIS YEAR, WITH AN EFFECTIVE DATE OF SEPT. 1991.
