The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is announcing the availability of the Draft FY 2018-2022 Strategic Plan for public review and comment. The agency anticipates the final Strategic Plan will be submitted to Congress in December 2017. The NTSB 2018-2022 Draft Strategic Plan summarizes our analysis of the internal and external environment impacting NTSB; evaluates NTSB programs and risks; and provides goals and objectives for the next five years.
The GPRA Modernization Act of 2010, holds federal agencies accountable for using resources wisely and achieving program results. Specifically, the GPRA Modernization Act requires agencies to develop: (1) Strategic Plans, which include a mission statement, long-term goals, objectives, and strategic measures, and strategies to achieve them over a four-year time horizon; (2) Annual Performance Plans, which provide annual performance measures and activities toward the long-term Strategic Plan; and (3) Annual Performance Reports, which evaluate an agency's success in achieving the annual performance measures.
The Strategic Plan reflects the NTSB’s priorities for advancing the mission of improving transportation safety by setting three priority strategic goals:
Safety Leadership: We will continue to serve as a global leader in independent accident investigations, products, and services essential to transportation safety.
Engagement: We will engage external stakeholders to advance transportation safety.
Synergy: We will promote agency teamwork, innovation, and engagement to optimize operations.
