On December 1, 2024, about 0009 local time (Alaska standard time), US Coast Guard Southeast Alaska received a MAYDAY call from the fishing vessel Wind Walker. The crew reported that the vessel had capsized off Point Couverden, Alaska, and that the five crewmembers were evacuating to a life raft. Two crewmembers were fatally injured, and three crewmembers remain missing. The fishing vessel is assumed a total loss, and damages were estimated at $650,000.
