The National Transportation Safety Board will hold an in-person public forum,
Automation in Transportation: Lessons for Safe Implementation, on March 11-12, 2025, in Washington, DC.
The Forum, led by NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy with participation by all NTSB Board Members, will focus on safety issues related to automation in all transportation modes: aviation, highway, rail, pipeline, and marine.
Topics to be addressed:
- Current and emerging use of automation in transportation
- Lessons learned from early implementations
- The role of humans in automated systems
- Assessing the safety of highly automated systems
- Post-deployment safety assessments
Forum participants will include a diverse group of subject matter experts representing industry, academia, labor, government, safety advocates, and other stakeholders.
The Forum will be open to the public and will take place at the
NTSB Boardroom and Conference Center. The event will also be livestreamed.
