WASHINGTON - As part of its continuing investigation into a fatal commercial trucking collision that occurred in Naperville, Illinois, the National Transportation Safety Board is opening the public docket on the crash, releasing more than 4,500 pages of investigative factual reports, photographs, and attachments.
One year ago today, on January 27, 2014, about 7:45 p.m. CST, a commercial tractor-trailer combination vehicle became disabled in the right lane of Interstate 88 near Naperville, Illinois. An Illinois State Toll Highway Authority truck and an Illinois State Police patrol vehicle stopped behind the tractor-trailer to render assistance and to warn oncoming traffic of the blocked lane. As a heavy-duty tow truck was preparing to remove the disabled tractor-trailer from the lane, another tractor-trailer combination vehicle collided with the stopped vehicles. The crash killed an Illinois State Toll Highway Authority worker and severely injured an Illinois State Police officer.
